Neuroplasticity - Krasl Art Center - December 2021

This interactive inflatable was entered in the 2021 Krasl Art Center Members Show.  The them of the exhibit was Resiliency Redux, a revisiting of the Resiliency theme form 2 years earlier.  Neuroplasticity is the ability of our neurons to heal themselves when we give them what they need.  This piece consisted of three motion controlled inflatable neurons that activate as a person approaches.  The entire piece is fully activated when 3 people are evenly spaced around the structure, and at that point they are also 6 feet apart.

Prismatic Hope - Krasl Art Center East Garden, June - September 2021

The design challenge for this project was to build an interactive outdoor structure that would also serve as a Covid 19 safe outdoor studio space for up to 6 students.  The proposal that I submitted was a purely analog presentation consisting of a 3D scale model in a presentation box.  The sails were all fabricated using ripstop sailcloth.  The desks were designed to tilting a friction mechanism and their design was inspired by the bark pattern of palm trees.  During the Krasl Art Fair On The Bluff in July 2021, patrons decorated Tibetan Prayer Flags and the flags were added to the installation.

AlumiNation - GhostLight Theatre, Benton Harbor, MI, March 2018

Starting with a blank canvas of a large, dark, unused building the challenge was to draw passers by in by filling  the space with light, motion , and energy.  This event served as the kick off for the new GhostLight Theatre in downtown Benton Harbor, Michigan.  Large lightbulbs hung from a 100 foot rope belt and traveled around a pulley and motor system.  Single point LED lights cast dynamically changing shadows on the walls, floor, and ceilings.
