I have spent close to a year living in the back country, and I am instinctively drawn to capturing the beauty of these spaces. As in all photography, light is an essential element of a landscape. There have been times when it has taken hours for the light to be just right, and then after waiting hours the window to capture the image can be a matter of seconds. I had the opportunity to drive from Alaska to Michigan with another photographer, and it was on this trip that I came to appreciate the power of clouds, especially in black and white.
